Understanding the New Process (Effective February 2025)
As of February 2025, the NSW Police Force Firearms Registry requires applicants to undergo a Health Risk Assessment for the Use or Possession of Firearms in NSW. This process involves:
-
Psychological Evaluation: Conducted by a qualified psychologist to assess your mental health and suitability for firearm ownership.
-
Report Submission to GP: Following the assessment, we will provide a comprehensive report to your nominated general practitioner (GP).
-
GP's Role: Your GP reviews our report, completes the official Health Risk Assessment form, and submits it directly to the NSW Firearms Registry.
This collaborative approach ensures a thorough evaluation of your psychological health, with your GP playing a crucial role in the final submission to the Registry.
Our Assessment Process
-
Initial Consultation: Schedule your first appointment with our psychologist to discuss your application and medical history.
-
Psychometric Testing: Complete standardised assessments, such as the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI), to evaluate various psychological factors.
-
Follow-Up Session: Attend a second session to discuss test results and any additional information required.
-
Report Preparation: We compile a detailed report based on the assessment findings.
-
Report Sent to GP: The final report is sent to your nominated GP for review and submission to the NSW Firearms Registry.
