Dementia & Aged Care Assessment Service

Dementia and aged care mental health assessments in Gladesville. Comprehensive cognitive, mood, and functional assessment to support older adults and families.

What to Expect from the Assessment Process

While each assessment is tailored to the individual and referral question, most assessments follow a similar structure:

1. Intake and Goal Setting

We clarify your main concerns, background, and what questions you would like the assessment to answer.

2. Testing Sessions

You attend one or more sessions for standardised psychometric testing and clinical interview. For many assessments this involves 2–4 hours of testing, sometimes split over more than one day.

3. Scoring and Analysis

Your psychologist scores the tests and integrates results with your history and presentation.

4. Feedback Session

We meet with you (and, where appropriate, family/carers) to explain results in plain English and discuss practical strategies and supports.

5. Written Report

You receive a structured report summarising findings and recommendations that can be shared with schools, GPs, specialists, support coordinators, or workplaces as needed.

Funding, Fees & Rebates

Fees vary depending on the type of assessment, the number of sessions required, and the level of reporting needed.

  • Many assessments are privately funded.

  • Medicare rebates for psychometric testing in Australia are limited and depend on referral type and item numbers.

  • Some assessments may be funded through NDIS, WorkCover, or CTP where criteria are met.

We will outline likely fees, timeframes, and any potential funding pathways before you decide to proceed.

FAQs about Psychological Assessments in Gladesville

Do I need a referral?

No, you can self-refer for a psychological assessment. A GP or specialist referral may help with access to rebates or funding pathways (for example, where Medicare, NDIS, WorkCover or CTP are involved). We can discuss this with you before you book.

How long does an assessment take?

This depends on the type of assessment and the questions being asked. Most assessments involve an intake session, one or more testing sessions, scoring and analysis, a feedback appointment, and preparation of a written report. Your psychologist will outline an estimated timeline at the start.

Are there Medicare rebates?

Rebates for psychometric testing are limited and depend on referral type, item numbers, and clinical needs. We will advise whether any Medicare, NDIS, WorkCover or CTP funding may apply in your situation.

Will I receive a report?

Yes. All comprehensive assessments include a written report summarising findings and recommendations. With your consent, we can also provide reports or summaries to your GP, specialist, school, or support coordinator.

Can parts of the assessment be completed via telehealth?

Some components, such as history-taking, questionnaires, and feedback sessions, can be completed via telehealth. Many standardised cognitive and diagnostic tests, however, must be administered in person to ensure validity.

For general information about psychological testing, you may also wish to visit the Australian Psychological Society website.
