Medicare Rebates for Psychology (Better Access) – Gladesville Sydney
How Medicare (Better Access) Works
If your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician considers that psychological therapy would be helpful, they can prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) and refer you to iflow Psychology.
With a valid referral, individuals may access up to 10 individual and up to 10 group rebated psychology sessions per calendar year. These caps are set by the Australian Government.
Update (13 October 2025): The Government has announced Better Access process changes commencing 1 November 2025, including potential linkage to your MyMedicare registered practice or usual GP. Your doctor can guide you on what applies.

More information is available on our Telehealth Psychology page.
Fees, Rebates & Claiming
iflow Psychology is a private practice. Session fees apply; where eligible, your Medicare rebate will reduce your out-of-pocket cost.
We can assist with on-the-spot claiming where possible. Alternatively, you can submit your rebate online via Medicare.
Your exact rebate depends on the MBS item and referral type. Refer to official government guidance for details.

Common questions (FAQs)
How many rebated sessions can I get each year?
Up to 10 individual and 10 group sessions per calendar year under Better Access (current cap). Your GP typically reviews progress after the first block of sessions.
Do telehealth sessions qualify for rebates?
Yes—when clinically appropriate and when eligibility criteria are met. Your clinician can advise whether telehealth is suitable for you.
Do I need a GP referral?
For Medicare rebates, you generally need a GP MHTP and referral, or a referral from a psychiatrist/paediatrician.
Are there changes coming in 2025?
Yes. From 1 November 2025, Better Access referral and review processes may link to your MyMedicare practice. Your GP will provide the correct guidance.
