Frequently Asked Questions
What happens in my first session?
Your psychologist will explore your needs and goals, explain confidentiality, and work with you to create a clear plan for therapy. You are welcome to ask questions at any time.
Do I need a GP referral to see a psychologist?
You can see a psychologist without a referral. A GP Mental Health Treatment Plan is needed only if you wish to access Medicare rebates.
How long does a session go for?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Some assessments or specialised appointments may require longer, and your psychologist will discuss this with you ahead of time.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals, the complexity of your concerns, and how frequently you attend. Your psychologist will review progress with you regularly.
Are telehealth sessions available?
Yes. We offer secure, confidential telehealth sessions for clients across NSW. Telehealth may be suitable for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and NDIS participants.
Can children and teenagers attend sessions without a parent?
Parents or carers usually attend the first session for children. Teenagers may attend independently if appropriate. Your psychologist will discuss the best approach for your young person’s needs.
Do you work with families and couples?
Yes. We provide evidence-based support for communication, conflict resolution, co-parenting, and strengthening connection. Sessions may be joint or individual depending on goals.
Do you provide support for culturally diverse clients?
Yes. We offer culturally responsive therapy that respects language, beliefs, migration experiences, and intergenerational differences. Bilingual services are available.
Do you work with people in the LGBTIQ+ community?
Yes. We provide inclusive, affirming care for people exploring identity, relationships, and wellbeing in a safe and respectful environment.
Can NDIS participants access therapy at iflow Psychology?
Yes. We support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants for therapy, assessments, and functional skills development. Services are available in-person and via telehealth across NSW.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your sessions are confidential, except in limited circumstances where there are legal obligations or safety concerns. Your psychologist will explain this clearly in your first appointment.
What should I bring to my appointment?
You may bring any relevant reports, referrals, school notes, or previous assessments, but this is optional. Many clients come to their first appointment with only their questions and concerns.
Do you see clients from outside Gladesville?
Yes. While our clinic is in Gladesville, we see clients from the Inner West, Ryde, Hunters Hill, Northern Sydney, Parramatta region, and across NSW via telehealth.
Can I request a male or female psychologist?
Yes. You can choose the psychologist you feel most comfortable with. Our team includes clinicians with a range of backgrounds and special interests.
What if I am in a crisis or need urgent help?
iflow Psychology is not an emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent support, please contact emergency services or visit our Crisis Support page for 24/7 help options.
