Choosing a Female Psychologist — Common Questions

Can I choose a specific psychologist?

Yes. You can book directly with any psychologist listed on this page.
Many clients read the profiles and select the person they feel most comfortable with. If you’re unsure, our team can help match you based on your preferences and concerns.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. All sessions are private and confidential in line with Australian privacy and professional standards. Information is only shared if required by law or if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else — we will always discuss this with you where possible.

Do I need a GP referral?

You can book without a referral.
However, if you would like a Medicare rebate, you will need a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan before your appointment.

What if I pick the wrong therapist?

That’s completely okay and more common than people think.
A good therapeutic fit matters, and if it doesn’t feel right you can change psychologists at any time. We can help you transition smoothly so you still feel supported.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is mainly a conversation. We’ll talk about what brought you in, what you would like help with, and what you hope will change. There is no pressure to share everything immediately, you can go at your own pace.

How much does it cost after the Medicare rebate?

After a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan, Medicare provides a rebate for eligible sessions. The exact out-of-pocket cost depends on the psychologist you see. You can view individual fees on the booking page or contact us and we’ll explain clearly before you book.

Do I have to commit to ongoing therapy?

No. Some people attend for a few sessions, others longer term. You and your psychologist decide together what is useful, there is no lock-in or obligation to continue.

What if I feel nervous about talking?

That’s very common. Many people feel unsure before their first appointment. Your psychologist will guide the conversation and you won’t be forced to talk about anything before you’re ready.
