Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Counselling

At iflow Psychology in Gladesville, we provide confidential, short-term Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselling for employees, managers and workplaces across Sydney and NSW.

Our registered psychologists offer practical, evidence-based support to help people manage workplace challenges, improve wellbeing and strengthen resilience. Sessions are available in-person at our Gladesville clinic or via secure telehealth for employees throughout NSW.

What We Help With

EAP counselling can support a wide range of work-related and personal concerns that impact performance and wellbeing, including:

  • Workplace stress, burnout and change fatigue

  • Conflict, communication and boundary difficulties

  • Anxiety, depression or low motivation

  • Adjustment after illness, injury or return-to-work changes

  • Family or relationship issues affecting work

  • Managing workload, deadlines and performance pressure

  • Supporting employees after critical incidents or organisational change

What’s Included

Your EAP counselling may include:

  • confidential, one-to-one sessions with a registered psychologist

  • short-term, goal-focused therapy (typically 3–6 sessions)

  • practical strategies to manage stress, mood and workplace pressures

  • support with communication, boundaries and problem-solving at work

  • guidance on work–life balance and self-care

  • flexible appointment options: in-person, telehealth or telephone (depending on your program)

What to Expect

EAP counselling is brief, structured and focused on your work and wellbeing goals. In your initial session, your psychologist will explore your concerns, clarify priorities and agree on a plan for the limited number of sessions available. Ongoing sessions focus on building awareness, developing coping skills and identifying realistic changes at work and home. Sessions are confidential except where safety or legal obligations apply, and information is not shared with your employer without your consent.

Potential benefits of EAP counselling include:

  • improved ability to manage workplace stress and pressure

  • clearer communication and boundaries with colleagues and managers

  • increased confidence, focus and productivity

Fees / Funding

EAP sessions are usually pre-approved and funded by your employer or EAP provider, and a GP referral is not required. If your workplace does not offer EAP, you can access counselling privately. In some situations, other pathways such as Medicare, WorkCover, insurer-funded or other schemes may be available depending on your circumstances and eligibility. Your psychologist can guide you on the most appropriate option.

How to Access Support

If your workplace has an EAP provider, you can usually obtain a referral or approval code through your HR team, manager or the EAP service directly. Once you have approval, contact iflow Psychology to arrange an appointment and let us know your EAP details. If you do not have access to an EAP program, you are welcome to book as a private client and we can discuss other funding options where relevant.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access EAP at iflow Psychology?

You may receive an approval code through your workplace’s HR team or EAP provider. Once you have approval, contact us with your EAP details and we will organise your appointment. If you do not have EAP access, you can book privately.

Is EAP suitable for managers or leaders?

Yes. EAP is available to employees at any level, including managers, supervisors and contractors. It can help with leadership stress, communication, organisational change and workplace relationships.

What issues can EAP help with?

EAP counselling supports a range of concerns, including workplace stress, burnout, conflict, communication difficulties, anxiety, low motivation, relationship issues, and adjustment after illness or return-to-work changes.

Can family members use my EAP sessions?

Some EAP programs allow immediate family members to attend sessions. This varies between workplaces. We can confirm your employer’s EAP coverage when you enquire or book.

Can I use telehealth for EAP?

Yes. EAP counselling is available in-person at our Gladesville clinic or via secure telehealth (phone or video) for employees across NSW. Many people choose telehealth for convenience or privacy.

How many EAP sessions do I receive?

Most EAP programs provide between 3 and 6 sessions. The exact number depends on your employer’s agreement with the EAP provider. Your psychologist will help you prioritise goals to make the most of the available sessions.

Do I need a GP referral for EAP?

A GP referral is not required for EAP counselling. If you are not eligible for EAP or prefer private counselling, other pathways—such as Medicare or insurer-funded services—may require documentation. Your psychologist will guide you if needed.

Will my employer know what I discuss in sessions?

No. EAP counselling is confidential except where safety or legal obligations apply. Employers may receive confirmation that a session occurred if required for funding, but no personal or clinical details are shared without your consent.
