Fees / Funding

For WorkCover, Comcare and CTP claims, the insurer usually funds approved sessions directly, meaning no out-of-pocket cost.
Early intervention sessions may be accessed before liability is formally accepted.

If your claim is not accepted or you prefer to self-fund, private or Medicare-rebated sessions are available.

Telehealth sessions are available NSW-wide, subject to scheme rules and approval.

How to Access Support

Step 1 – Book your first session

You can usually attend your first appointment without pre-approval.

Step 2 – See your GP

Your GP issues a certificate or referral recommending psychological treatment.

Step 3 – Initial assessment

Your psychologist completes an assessment and treatment plan.

Step 4 – Treatment request (AHTR)

We submit the treatment plan to the insurer.

Step 5 – Insurer approval

The insurer confirms the number of funded sessions.

Step 6 – Ongoing therapy

Sessions continue as approved, with coordinated communication as required.

Additional Information

Some important scheme-specific considerations include:

AHTR (Allied Health Treatment Request)

For WorkCover clients, an AHTR is normally submitted after the first session to request approval for ongoing psychological treatment.

Comcare and CTP referrals:

These schemes typically require a GP or treating medical practitioner to provide a referral that specifically recommends psychological treatment.

Early intervention sessions:

In many cases, early psychological sessions may be accessed before the insurer makes a formal liability decision. These sessions support timely care and early symptom stabilisation.

We provide confidential psychological care in accordance with NSW SIRA and AHPRA professional standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you provide crisis support?

We provide therapeutic support but not emergency crisis services. If your family is currently in crisis, please visit our Crisis Support page for immediate assistance or contact emergency services if there is immediate risk.

How do I know if my family needs therapy?

Families often seek therapy when communication becomes difficult, conflict escalates, changes feel overwhelming, or when a child’s wellbeing is impacted. If challenges are affecting daily life or relationships, professional support can provide clarity and direction.

Can separated or blended families attend together?

Yes. Therapy can support co-parenting, transitions, strengthening communication between households, and helping children adjust to change. Sessions are structured to ensure emotional safety for everyone involved.

What issues can family therapy help with?

Family therapy supports a wide range of concerns, including communication breakdowns, parent–child conflict, separation or blended family transitions, emotional or behavioural concerns in children, grief, trauma, and stress affecting family functioning.

Do we need a GP referral for family therapy?

No referral is required. However, some family-focused sessions may be eligible for Medicare rebates when the work aligns with a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan. We can advise you on the best pathway before your first appointment.

Is family therapy confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential within the limits of Australian law and professional standards. Your psychologist will explain how confidentiality works in family therapy, including how information is managed when multiple family members attend sessions.

Can children or teenagers attend family therapy?

Yes. Children and adolescents often play an important role in the family system. Sessions can include children directly, or involve parent-only consultations depending on the child’s age, developmental stage, and presenting concerns.

Do you offer telehealth family therapy?

Yes. We provide secure telehealth sessions for families across NSW. Telehealth can be useful for families with busy schedules, separated households, or when multiple members are joining from different locations.

How many sessions do families usually need?

Most families attend between 6–8 sessions, depending on the concerns, goals, and willingness of members to participate. Some families benefit from short-term support, while others choose longer-term work to address more complex patterns.

What happens during a family therapy session?

Family therapy sessions involve guided conversations that help family members understand each other’s perspectives, improve communication, and work through patterns contributing to conflict or distress. The psychologist will structure the session around the family’s goals and may meet with the whole family together or with individuals when clinically appropriate.
