WorkCover, Comcare & CTP Psychology

At iflow Psychology in Gladesville, our SIRA-accredited psychologists provide confidential, evidence-based care for WorkCover, Comcare and CTP claims — in person or via telehealth across NSW. In most cases, your first appointment does not require insurer pre-approval, meaning you can start support quickly while paperwork is processed.

Fees / Funding

For WorkCover, Comcare and CTP claims, the insurer usually funds approved sessions directly, meaning no out-of-pocket cost.
Early intervention sessions may be accessed before liability is formally accepted.

If your claim is not accepted or you prefer to self-fund, private or Medicare-rebated sessions are available.

Telehealth sessions are available NSW-wide, subject to scheme rules and approval.

How to Access Support

Step 1 – Book your first session

You can usually attend your first appointment without pre-approval.

Step 2 – See your GP

Your GP issues a certificate or referral recommending psychological treatment.

Step 3 – Initial assessment

Your psychologist completes an assessment and treatment plan.

Step 4 – Treatment request (AHTR)

We submit the treatment plan to the insurer.

Step 5 – Insurer approval

The insurer confirms the number of funded sessions.

Step 6 – Ongoing therapy

Sessions continue as approved, with coordinated communication as required.

Some important scheme-specific considerations include:

AHTR (Allied Health Treatment Request)

For WorkCover clients, an AHTR is normally submitted after the first session to request approval for ongoing psychological treatment.

Comcare and CTP referrals:

These schemes typically require a GP or treating medical practitioner to provide a referral that specifically recommends psychological treatment.

Early intervention sessions:

In many cases, early psychological sessions may be accessed before the insurer makes a formal liability decision. These sessions support timely care and early symptom stabilisation.

We provide confidential psychological care in accordance with NSW SIRA and AHPRA professional standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my WorkCover or CTP claim is still being assessed?

Many schemes offer early intervention sessions that can be accessed before a formal liability decision is made. We can guide you on what to discuss with your GP or insurer.

Can I choose telehealth even if I am based in Sydney?

Yes. Many clients choose telehealth for convenience, symptom management, transport limitations or privacy. Telehealth sessions follow the same professional standards as in-person appointments.

Do you work with my GP or rehabilitation provider?

Yes. With your consent, we coordinate with your GP, insurer and rehabilitation provider to ensure your treatment plan supports your broader recovery and return-to-work goals.

How long does insurer approval take?

Approval timeframes vary depending on the insurer and scheme requirements. We can support you in understanding what information may assist the insurer in their review process.

What types of issues can psychologists help with under WorkCover or CTP?

Psychologists support individuals experiencing work-related stress, bullying, trauma, anxiety, depression, pain-related distress, sleep problems, fatigue, and challenges adjusting to injury or returning to work.

What happens in the first WorkCover, Comcare or CTP appointment?

The first session focuses on understanding your concerns, reviewing any injury-related or workplace factors, assessing symptoms, and identifying appropriate treatment goals. This session also forms the basis of the treatment request submitted to the insurer.

What information will be shared with my insurer or employer?

For insurer-funded treatment, we provide progress reports, treatment plans and capacity-related information to the insurer and your GP as required by the scheme. We explain these processes in session and aim to keep you informed about what is being shared and why.

Can I access psychological therapy if I live outside Sydney?

Yes. iflow Psychology provides secure telehealth sessions across NSW, allowing individuals in regional and remote areas to access psychological support that aligns with scheme requirements.

Will I have out-of-pocket costs for therapy?

For approved WorkCover, Comcare and CTP claims, psychological sessions are generally funded directly by the insurer. If you prefer to self-fund or if your claim is not approved, private or Medicare-rebated sessions may be available.

Do I need insurer approval before seeing a psychologist under WorkCover or CTP?

In many cases, you can attend your first session without prior approval, particularly under early intervention arrangements. After the first appointment, your psychologist submits an Allied Health Treatment Request (AHTR) or equivalent plan to the insurer for consideration of ongoing sessions.
